Collaborative Projects

Join a Project

Before creating your own collaborative project, join at least two or three on-going collaborative projects. You can learn how information is exchanged and gain insight as to what you like or dislike about these projects. Here are some tips for selecting a project.

Tips for Selecting a Project to Join

  1. Select a project that matches the curriculum goals of your classroom.
  2. Look to see who is moderating or sponsoring this project. If you join a project that is moderated by a teacher, there is a chance that unforseen issues may occur that will prevent that teacher from following through with their expectations.
  3. See if the following elements are clearly stated:
    1. goals and objectives
    2. beginning and ending date of the project
    3. appropriate age level for your students
    4. how information will be exchanged
    5. expectations for participants

Finding Collaborative Projects to Join

There are two ways to find an on-going project:

1. Join an Educational Mailing List

A mailing list is a wonderful communication tool that offers its members the opportunity to post suggestions or questions to a large number of people at the same time. Many mailing lists have educators looking for someone to collaborate with.
