The first step in planning your search is to develop your concept or topic. Depending on what your subject area and topic is will determine the best way that you can use to guide your students into developing their concept or topic. There are 3 models that you can use to develop topics: word webs, idea mapping, and concept mapping. This activity can be done using note paper for individual brainstorming or butcher paper, white boards, and even software for large group brainstorming.

The next 3 pages will show examples of the 3 models you can use to develop your topic.
